Protecting the Marine Environment from Offshore Exploration Activities in the Bay of Bengal: A Case Study of Bangladesh

Bangladesh Centre for Ocean Law and Policy - BCOLP cordially invites you to the second episode of its inaugural webinar series. The second session's title is "Protecting the Marine Environment from Offshore Exploration Activities in the Bay of Bengal: A Case Study of Bangladesh."


We are pleased to announce that Mr Mobarak Hossain, Lecturer, Dhaka International University, has kindly agreed to be the speaker for the second session. Mr Hossain has extensive experience in ocean governance and the law of the sea. He completed his LLB (Hon's) and LLM from Rajshahi University in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Later, he completed a second LLM in international law at South Asian University, New Delhi, and a third LLM in the law of the sea at Ankara University, Turkiye. Mr Hossain adopts the sustainable development approach to legal research and applies the same in analysing challenges for blue governance in the Bay of Bengal. He regularly writes in the top English-language newspapers of Bangladesh, including the Daily Star and the Daily Observer. His research interests include sustainable ocean governance, the law of the sea, the blue economy, environmental aspects of offshore energy exploitation activities and international investment law. Mr Hossain is an Executive Member of BCOLP.

Dr Abdullah Al Arif, JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at Yokohama City University (Japan) and BCOLP's Founder and Director, will give a brief introductory speech. Mr Quazi Omar Foysal, Lecturer, American International University-Bangladesh, will moderate the session.

The webinar will take place on 26 September 2022 at 9:00 pm Dhaka Time, 8:30 pm Indian Standard Time and 5:00 pm Central European Summer Time. The session will be delivered via Zoom.
